Stirling Bomar

Team 98

Biography

Stirling Bomar is an American Phi Alpha Cup golfer once known for his bombastic demeanor. In high school, Bomar attended Spartanburg High School where he served as Home Match Manager for the golf team. After turning professional, Bomar was given the high honor of being chosen as an original Team 98 team member 2005. However, Bomar was suspended from the team and fined in 2008 for conduct unbecoming a Phi Alpha Cup member. He was subsequently reinstated for the 2010 Cup after agreeing to community service with the First Tee and speaking to junior high golfers about golfing etiquette.

Bomar has piled up plenty of accolades during his Phi Alpha Cup career, including the 2006 and 2016 Jeffrey J. Eaton MVP Awards. Bomar’s most impressive and most famous accomplishment however may be that he holds several of the most distinguished Phi Alpha Cup records: Most Consecutive Phi Alpha Cup Singles Losses (9); Most Phi Alpha Cup Singles Matches Without A Win (9); Largest Losing Margin in a Phi Alpha Cup Match (9&8 to Andy Sands); Highest Seed to Lose 9 Consecutive Phi Alpha Cup Matches and First Player to Lose 9 Consecutive Phi Alpha Cup Matches. In 2013, Bomar put an end to these amazing streaks when he won his first Singles Match in 10 tries against Team 97’s Andrew Parker. Throughout his up-and-down career, Bomar has been known for the bulletin board material he has provided for Team 97, as well as his own team, much to the chagrin of Team 98 Captain, David Johnson.

Bomar resides in Atlanta, GA, with his family and collects Croakies sunglasses straps in his free time.
