The 2012 Phi Alpha Cup is not just the place where the world’s finest golf is on display, but it is also where the world’s biggest celebrities come to play. In a sign of just how popular of an event the Phi Alpha Cup has become, unless you’re rich, famous, or both, a ticket to the tournament is almost unobtainable.

Among the few lucky celebrities able to attend the 2012 PAC apparently is Michael Jordan, who was spotted at the Wilmington International Airport Thursday afternoon. Jordan, of course, famously hails from Wilmington, where he was recruited by former North Carolina Head Basketball Coach, Dean Smith. A picture of Jordan’s arrival was snapped and leaked late today by Team 97 Superfan, Brian Wilsey. Wilsey just happened to be camped out at the Wilmington airport when Jordan’s jet landed, as he was waiting to welcome Team 97 members as they arrived for the tournament.

According to sources close to Team 97, Jordan has been scheduled to attend the Phi Alpha Cup for some time and was offered an Honorary Co-Captain spot for the 2012 event, although there was apparently a disagreement between Team 97 representatives and Jordan’s team over the term “honorary.” A Team 97 spokesman confirmed those details, and stated that although Jordan was not designated with an official Team 97 title for the event, he was given a “family pass” so he could still walk inside the ropes during tournament play.
